Consultations & Fees FAQs

Yes. Virtual consultations are available for clients locally and internationally. Depending on your question, photographs, videos, measurements, and other supporting information may be enough for an initial assessment. If a physical examination of the rug is necessary, we will explain why and recommend the appropriate next step.

Which Areas Do You Serve?
1
Do You Offer Virtual Consultations?
Virtual consultations are available to clients worldwide. In-person services are available throughout Greater Montreal and surrounding communities, with travel to other locations considered when appropriate.
If you are located outside the Greater Montreal area, tell us your location and what you need assistance with, and we can determine whether your matter can be handled virtually or whether travel would be appropriate.
How Much Does a Consultation Cost?
2
The Initial Consultation is CAD $150. It is a focused consultation about your rug, the questions you have, and the decision you are trying to make.
Depending on your situation, the consultation may include a review of photographs, measurements, receipts, certificates, previous appraisals, seller information, or other relevant documentation you provide in advance. We may discuss identification, construction, materials, quality, condition, value questions, care or restoration considerations, a potential purchase, insurance or estate needs, or whether a formal appraisal or in-person examination may be appropriate.
The $150 consultation fee does not include a formal written appraisal, extensive research, travel, or additional on-site work. If further services are recommended, the scope of work and any additional fees will be explained before you decide whether to proceed.

How Do I Schedule an Appointment?
You can request a consultation through the website, by email, or by telephone. We will review the information you provide and recommend the most appropriate type of appointment based on your rug and the questions you would like answered.
What Happens During the Initial Consultation?
Some questions can be addressed through photographs and video, while others require the rug to be physically examined. A formal appraisal requires an in-person examination. Questions involving construction, condition, materials, repairs, or other details also may require physical examination. We will let you know when an in-person examination is necessary and explain why.

When Is an In-Person Rug Examination Required?
The Initial Consultation is a focused discussion about your rug and the question or decision you are trying to address. Depending on your situation, we may discuss identification, construction, materials, quality, condition, value questions, care or restoration considerations, a potential purchase, insurance or estate needs, or whether a formal appraisal may be appropriate.
Photographs, measurements, receipts, certificates, previous appraisals, and other relevant documentation may also be reviewed when available. At the end of the consultation, you will have a clearer understanding of your options and the most appropriate next step.
If additional research, an in-person examination, a formal appraisal, or another service is recommended, the scope and applicable fee will be explained before any additional work begins.
What Should I Prepare Before My Consultation or In-Home Appointment?
Are Travel Fees Charged Separately?
Yes. In-home consultations and appraisals are subject to a separate travel fee based on the location of the appointment. For visits within the Greater Montreal area, a flat travel charge applies. For locations farther from our base in Vaudreuil-Dorion, an additional per-kilometre charge may apply. The exact travel fee will always be confirmed with you in advance before the appointment is scheduled.
Gather anything you know about the rug, including where it came from, when it was purchased or inherited, previous invoices or appraisals, and any concerns you have about its condition or value.
If the appointment will take place in your home, please make sure the rug is fully accessible before I arrive. Rugs should be removed from underneath furniture, and rugs displayed on a wall should be taken down in advance whenever possible. This allows the rug to be examined properly from both the front and back and helps make the appointment more efficient.
If additional time is required to access or prepare a rug because it was not made accessible in advance, an additional charge may apply or the appointment may need to be rescheduled.
Most importantly, think about the question or decision you would like the consultation to help you address.
Can I Discuss More Than One Rug During a Consultation?
Are Appraisal Fees Separate From Consultation Fees?
What Payment Methods Do You Accept?
What Photos or Information Should I Send in Advance?
When photographs are requested, we may ask for clear images of the entire front and back of the rug, close-ups of the weave, fringe, edges, labels or signatures, and any areas of damage or repair. Measurements and any available documentation can also be helpful. We will tell you exactly what is needed for your particular consultation.
Yes. A consultation and a formal appraisal are separate professional services. If a formal appraisal is recommended following the initial consultation, the scope of work and appraisal fee will be explained to you before you decide whether to proceed.
Payment can be made by Interac e-Transfer or PayPal. Payment instructions will be provided with your invoice or appointment confirmation.
For international clients, payment in U.S. dollars or euros may also be available. If an international payment arrangement is required, the appropriate payment details will be provided directly.
Can You Provide a Quote Before I Proceed?
Yes. If you have several rugs, please let us know when requesting your appointment.
Depending on the number of rugs involved and the questions you would like to address, we can determine whether they can reasonably be covered within one consultation or whether additional time or a separate service would be more appropriate.
How Is the Length of a Consultation Determined?
The length of a consultation depends on the number of rugs involved, the complexity of your questions, and the type of information that needs to be reviewed.
When your appointment is arranged, we will recommend an appropriate amount of time based on the information you provide so that the consultation can remain focused on the questions and decisions that matter most to you.
Yes. Once we understand what you need, we will explain the recommended service, its scope, and any applicable fees before additional work begins.
You can then decide whether you would like to proceed. No additional professional work will be undertaken without the scope and fee being discussed with you in advance.
