Buying & Decision

Support FAQs

Rug Selection Guidance helps you determine what type of rug is most appropriate for your space, needs, and budget before you begin shopping or before you narrow down specific options.

We can discuss factors such as size, construction, materials, quality, durability, design, intended use, and practical considerations so you know what to look for and which questions to ask.

What Is Acquisition Consulting?

1

What Is Rug Selection Guidance?

Acquisition Consulting provides independent guidance when you are considering one or more specific rugs for purchase.

We can review photographs, videos, seller information, measurements, construction, materials, condition, asking price, and other relevant details to help you better understand the rug and make a more informed buying decision. Depending on the situation, this service may be provided virtually or in person.

What Is In-Store Rug Scouting & Acquisition Support?

2

In-Store Rug Scouting & Acquisition Support is available when you would like The Rug Authority to visit selected rug retailers, galleries, or other sellers on your behalf.

We can review available rugs based on your requirements, identify promising options, document relevant details where permitted, and report back with independent observations and recommendations. This can be especially useful if you are unable to visit the stores yourself or would prefer to have suitable options narrowed down before making a decision.

What Is the Difference Between Acquisition Consulting and In-Store Rug Scouting?

Acquisition Consulting focuses on evaluating specific rugs you are already considering and may be conducted virtually or in person.

In-Store Rug Scouting is a more hands-on service in which The Rug Authority physically visits selected sellers on your behalf to identify and assess suitable options. In some cases, both services may be combined as part of the same buying process.

Can You Visit Rug Stores on My Behalf?

Yes. The Rug Authority can provide acquisition support for clients considering rugs offered through auction houses, galleries, or estate sales.

Depending on the assignment, we can review available information in advance, assess specific rugs of interest, attend in person when appropriate, document relevant details, and provide independent guidance before you decide whether to bid or purchase.

Auction attendance, travel, research, and any additional evaluation work are quoted separately based on the scope of the assignment.

Can You Attend Rug Auctions on My Behalf?

Yes. The Rug Authority can visit selected rug retailers or galleries on your behalf to review available options based on your preferences, intended use, budget, and other requirements.

Where permitted by the retailer, photographs or video may be taken and relevant information documented so the most promising options can be reviewed with you afterward. Store visits, travel, and any additional research are quoted according to the scope of the assignment.

Can You Help Me Evaluate a Rug Before I Buy It?

Can you Compare Rugs From Different Retailers or Sellers?

Yes. Because The Rug Authority does not sell rugs, we can compare options from different retailers, galleries, auction houses, or private sellers without being tied to any particular inventory.

Comparisons may consider construction, materials, craftsmanship, condition, quality, asking price, suitability, and other factors relevant to your decision.

Yes. We can help you assess a rug you are considering before you commit to the purchase.

Depending on the information available, we may review its construction, materials, condition, quality, origin or attribution, seller claims, asking price, and suitability for your intended use. If the question requires physical examination of the rug, we will let you know.

Can You Review Rugs Virtually?

Do You Offer Guidance on Natural, Healthy, or Sustainable Rug Options?

Can You Help Me Evaluate Claims Made by a Rug Seller?

Yes. If a seller has provided information about a rug’s origin, age, materials, construction, craftsmanship, condition, provenance, or other characteristics, we can review the available information and help you understand which claims appear supported and which may require further verification.

Where a reliable opinion requires physical examination of the rug, we will tell you before proceeding further.

Yes. Buying guidance can include practical considerations such as rug size, room proportions, intended use, traffic level, construction, fibre type, durability, maintenance requirements, quality, and design.

The goal is to help you choose a rug that makes sense not only aesthetically, but also for how you intend to live with and use it.

Yes. If natural materials, sustainability, durability, or indoor-environment considerations are important to you, these preferences can be incorporated into the selection process.

We can help you compare fibre types, construction methods, available certifications, manufacturer information, and seller claims. Where environmental or health claims cannot be independently verified, we will make that limitation clear rather than presenting the claim as established fact.

What Information Should I Send Before a Buying Consultation?

Yes. Many buying questions can begin virtually using clear photographs, video, measurements, seller descriptions, receipts, certificates, and other available documentation. Virtual review can be particularly useful when you are considering a rug located in another city or country.

If the question you are asking requires physical examination of the rug for a reliable opinion, we will let you know before proceeding further.

Do You Receive Commissions or Referral Fees From Rug Sellers?

No. The Rug Authority is independent and does not sell rugs or earn commissions based on which rug you purchase or which seller you choose.

Recommendations are made based on your needs and the information available, not on an interest in completing a sale for a retailer or dealer.

Please send any available photographs, videos, measurements, seller descriptions, asking prices, receipts, certificates, provenance information, or links to the rugs you are considering.

It is also helpful to share your budget, intended use, room dimensions, design preferences, and any concerns you have about quality, authenticity, condition, or value. The more relevant information available in advance, the more focused the consultation can be.

What Should I Look for Before Buying a Rug?

Before purchasing a rug, it can be helpful to consider more than design alone. Depending on the rug, relevant factors may include construction, materials, craftsmanship, condition, repairs or alterations, origin or attribution, size, quality, durability, seller claims, asking price, and suitability for your intended use.

The purpose of independent buying guidance is not simply to tell you whether a rug is “good” or “bad,” but to help you understand what you are being offered, what questions to ask, and whether there are any concerns worth investigating before you commit to the purchase.

Can You Tell Me Whether the Asking Price Is Reasonable?

Yes. We can help you evaluate whether an asking price appears reasonable in relation to the rug’s characteristics, condition, quality, available market information, and comparable offerings where appropriate.

The goal is not simply to label a rug as “cheap” or “expensive,” but to help you understand what you are being offered and whether the asking price appears reasonable in the context of the rug and the purchase.
