Before cleaning, repairing, or restoring your rug, understand its condition and the options available. We provide independent guidance to help you make informed decisions and preserve what matters.

RUG CARE & RESTORATION CONSULTING
You May Benefit From a Consultation If You...
Need a documented replacement value for insurance purposes
Require a value for estate, probate or inheritance purposes
Need a formal report for donation, tax or legal purposes
Are considering a purchase or sale and need independent value guidance
Have been asked for an appraisal by an insurer, lawyer or another party
Want a professional, written valuation prepared by an independent expert

Not every rug requires restoration, and not every recommended treatment is necessarily appropriate.
A rug's construction, materials, age, condition, significance, and intended use can all influence the most suitable course of action.
The Rug Authority provides independent guidance without selling, cleaning, repairing, or restoring rugs. Our recommendations are not influenced by income from carrying out the treatment itself.

How the Appraisal Process Works

Examination & Research
Discuss Your Needs
Receive Your Report
Tell us about your rug and your specific goals. Together, we will identify the intended use of the valuation—whether for insurance coverage, estate planning, or personal knowledge—to ensure we develop the correct scope of work.
We examine the rug using the method appropriate to the assignment, either in person or remotely using clear photographs and supporting documentation.
We then research relevant market information and evaluate the characteristics needed to develop a credible opinion of value.
You will receive a professionally prepared written appraisal tailored to the assignment’s intended use.
The scope and level of detail will reflect the appraisal service selected and the requirements of the assignment.

Report Turnaround
Photo-Based Appraisals
Standard single-rug appraisals are generally delivered within 10 business days after the assignment is confirmed, payment is received, and all required high-resolution photographs and supporting information have been provided.

In-Person Appraisals
Standard single-rug appraisals are generally delivered within 10 business days following the physical examination, provided payment and all required information have been received. Appointments are subject to location and availability.
A personalized delivery timeframe is provided based on the number of rugs, examination requirements, and complexity of the assignment.
Multiple Rugs or Collections
An estimated delivery date is provided before the assignment begins.
Business days are Monday through Friday, excluding statutory holidays observed in Quebec, Canada.
How Your Rug Is Examined
Depending on the rug, the purpose of the appraisal, and the information available, an appraisal can be completed through an in-person examination or remotely using sufficiently detailed photographs, measurements, documentation, and other relevant information.
Some characteristics can be evaluated reliably from high-quality visual documentation, while others may require physical examination to assess details such as construction, materials, repairs, condition, or other characteristics that cannot be confirmed remotely.
The appropriate examination method is determined by the requirements of the assignment and the scope of work necessary to develop a credible opinion of value.
